With George Bush's approval ratings at an unprecedented (or unpresidented?) low, online gambling site Sportsbook.com is now taking bets on Cheney and Rumsfeld too. After recently laying internet betting odds on just how low President Bush's ratings would go by 1 May, the online sports betting site had a flurry of interest from internet gamblers wanting to have a bet on the man in the oval office.According to RealClearPolitics.com, an online aggregator of approval ratings polls (from sources like FOX, USA Today and CBS), Bush's rating currently stands at a white-knuckle-worrying 36.4%, which means that barely more than a third of USA citizens approve of their president. Bush must be aware that trouble is brewing, as rumors spread that Vice President Dick Cheney and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld could be history by the end of 2006. If you think so too, your political astuteness could earn you a few American greenbacks at Sportsbook.com before the year is out. With Democrats and Republicans coming together in combined concern over the future of the American government, this can't be George Bush's finest hour. Colin Powell moved on ages ago and just recently Bush received resignations from two of his one-time closest aides, fueling the fire that burns on Capitol Hill and in just about every home in America.Andy Card, the President's Chief of Staff, called it a day on 28 March, followed by White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan's resignation a few weeks later on 19 April. To make matters worse, Bush's decision to replace McClellan with a former FOX news presenter and talk show host Tony Snow has left Dubbya even more bruised than before! Add to the mix the current administration's contentious policies on Iraq, immigration, energy and tax and you have a recipe for a disastrous public response. So what is Bush to do? Politiicans believe that the only option left to him is to bite the bullet and ditch his 'dead weight' allies Cheney and Rumsfeld. But it's not just the Washington pundits who believe Bush will fire the pair in the near future. Betting odds at Sportsbook.com indicate that online gamblers think Dick and Don will get their marching orders before the end of this year. "Bush is gambling that by replacing two White House staffers, he'll be able to kick start what many view as the worst presidency and most incompetent White House in the nation's history," said a Sportsbook.com spokesperson. "There is no evidence yet that his gamble is paying off and no reported improvement to his approval rating". The Sportsbook.com odds are: - Cheney still being in office come 31 December 2006: NO -600, YES +400 - Rumsfeld hanging on to his position past 31 December 2006: NO -400, YES +250 Show your patriotism in the only two ways that count: with your vote at the next election and an online bet at Sportsbook.com! |
