Online gambling bets are flying in - will Hillary Clinton be the next president of the USA?Whether you love or loathe Hillary Clinton, online gambling odds show that internet gamblers fancy her as the It Girl come 2008. Not great news for constantly defeated (though now a little older, wiser and bearded) democratic hopeful Al Gore. He had probably pinned all his hopes on taking a back seat for 8 years while George Bush did his best in the oval office.

The problem he faces now is that the American public want to see a 180 degree shift in the leadership of their country when they next go to the polls. And though Gore is definitely not Bush, it's difficult to be any more different than Mrs Clinton. Online gambling odds tip her as the favorite to put her hand on the Bible as the next US president in 2008 - and she may just pull it off.

With the worldwide public normalising to the idea of a female American president in the hit TV show Commander in Chief (where Geena Davis plays a no-nonsense leader with more apparent ability to do the job than many of her real counterparts), the once overwhelming culture shock of a woman in the number one spot has almost dissolved completely for the majority of US citizens. The betting odds at online sportsbook Sportsbook.com prove the point. Clinton is the easy favorite to win the next election at odds of 3:1, though Gore does have a sizeable amount of betting interest going his way.

Gore's odds of showing Clinton who's boss are 20:1 - much warmer odds than his original 70:1 a year back. And surprisingly, though Clinton is the clear favorite, Gore is attracting quite a few longshot bettors. So much so that he's attracted 12.8% of all bets at Sportsbook.com, with Hillary slightly in his shadow at 12.5%. This would suggest that even though the internet betting public knows Clinton has the better chance of winning, they don't necessarily want her to win. That, or Al Gore has a whole new support base with money to throw at their favorite candidate.

The race to be the 44th president of the USA is going to be a hotly contested one, even within the Republican Party. The list of other Republican candidates that could be up for the job include John McCain (again) at odds of 6:1 and even tight-lipped Rudy Giuliani at odds of 10:1. Dick Cheney is all the way back at 75:1 and Condoleezza Rice is doing marginally better at odds of 60:1. Just for fun, some other no-chance candidates are also available for betting: Michael Moore and Arnold Schwarzenegger included.

A spokesperson from Sportsbook.com believes that betting for your favorite presidential candidate and voting for them at the polls go hand-in-hand. "Every single American has their own opinion on who the best person to do this job will be. Everybody will be betting and everybody wants to have their own say on who takes office as the 44th President of the United States."
